CIGRE is governed by the following bodies:
-
The General Assembly of the members, which meets every second year during the Session.
- The Administrative Council (Council), composed by:
- A representative of each National Committee (NC),elected by the General Assembly; these representatives are the only ones with a right to vote;
- The President, the Chairman of the Technical Committee, the Treasurer;
- The Past Presidents of CIGRE and the President of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
- The 3 CIGRE Officers - President, Chairman of the Technical Committee and Treasurer - are elected by the Council among its members
.
- The Steering Committee is an advisory body making recommendations to the Council. It comprises the 3 CIGRE Officers and 12 other elected members.
- The Technical Committee comprises the Chairman of the Technical Committee, the 16 Study Committees Chairmen, 2 representatives of the Council and the Secretary General of CIGRE. It is responsible for the technical direction and work of the Association.
The Central Office located in Paris is in charge of day-to-day matters. It is headed by the Secretary General.
