History
CIGRE-IRAN is a branch of International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) which represents Iran’s interest in the work of CIGRE.
Activities concerning joining of Iran to CIGRE goes back 1989, when Iranian National Committee for Electric Power Studies was founded.
Following that in 1994, in CIGRE’s 35th Session, National Committee of Iran was formally announced.
Objectives
The main objectives of CIGRE-IRAN are:

To contribute in development of research on high-voltage electrical systems.
- To facilitate publication of research results.
- To organize Technical Committees in various fields of electric power industry.
- To cooperate in holding international conference.
Mission
CIGRE-IRAN’s mission is to increase involvement of Iranian members in CIGRE and to promote CIGRE in Iran. This is done by:
- Organizing representation of Iran in CIGRE Session and Symposia.
- Selecting papers for international and national meetings
- Proposing papers for presentation in the Session.
- Helping the creation of Technical Committees in Iran who will work with Study Committees of CIGRE.
- Informing its members of activities of Study Committees
Conferences & Meetings
CIGRE-IRAN organizes conferences and meetings, where the Iranian scientists and engineers present technical articles and papers and discuss on problems and issues of electric power industry.
- The annual Seminar on Insulators held at country level in Iranian research centers or companies every February. It brings together more than 200 members and non-member engineers, where more than 25 papers are presented. The last and 8th seminar held in February 2010 in Idrou Institute, Tehran, Iran.
- Seminars on Overhead Transmission Lines’ Conductors & Towers, Compact Towers, Transformers, Control & Protection, Hardware & Fittings have been organized periodically by relevant Technical Committees and there were more than 150 experts would participate and the schedule for future technical meetings is arranged
- Technical Committees meetings are held every month, where committee members present and discuss on last innovation, technologies and standards in the field of committee. Presently 7 Technical Committees are active and CIGRE-IRAN members and experts are involved in these committees.
Other Activities
CIGRE-IRAN organizes conferences and meetings, where the Iranian scientists and engineers present technical articles and papers and discuss on problems and issues of electric power industry.
- Distribute the Call For Paper of CIGRE to all organizations, research centers, universities and selected utilities as well as electric consulting engineers.
- Coordination for sending Iranian participants in CIGRE Session in Paris or other Symposia.
- Provide technical brochures and papers of CIGRE for students and technical institutes upon their request.
- • Facilitate to pay membership fees of Iranian members to CIGRE.
